Ragbrai - dinner Altoona, Grinnell & Boone

Ragbrai is almost here.
Ragbrai is a bike ride across Iowa though a lot of small towns. It is one of the biggest turnout bike rides in the world. People come from all over the world but mostly the US to ride the week long bike ride. One of the nicest things on Ragbrai are the friendly people of Iowa. At the overnight towns you can find dinners at local churches. Get in line because so many times they sell out very quickly. The feeling you get from a church dinner is so wonderful and you know the money is going to a good cause too. I will be riding most of the week and plan to photograph some church dinners, Mr Pork Chop and any other food related things on Ragbrai.

Setting up locations

Altoona, Iowa has 6 church dinners
Altoona United Methodist Church - Bake Potato Bar, Gluten Free Hamburgers, Fruit Pies, and Gluten Free Brownies.

Grinnell, Iowa has 4 church dinners

This is the 3rd time Ragbrai has pasted though Grinnell. This dish was created for biker by some veteran biker and past experience with big dinners from the past. Make sure to see the mural on the dinning room wall.

Boone, Iowa has 8 dinner locations

Angel

You were an Angel sent from above to watch over and guide me. You taught me to love and to be loved in return. You helped me conquer my fears, feel good in myself and trust in love. Raising you I knew I could be a good mother even if it was just pets for me. You could make me laugh when I was sad. You licked my tears to tell me it's okay. Thank you for being a part of my life.

If ever there is an cat angel I know that it was you. Take care my little Angel, mommy loves you.

Part of our progressive dinner weekend with my dad was finishing it with breakfast at Modern Cafe. My dad lives in Green Bay so when he comes to Minneapolis we try to show him a good time and for me it eating. Friday night we took him to four different places. Starting at the Sample Room for the first course. Second was Pyscho Suzies for an appetizers and beer. Main course was at Sen Yai Sen Lek. Dessert was at Dairy Queen, Grandpa's was closed by the time we finished.

Dad had the Famous Modern Hash - 2 eggs with pot roast, potatoes, & peppers. Larry had the Tomato Scrambled Eggs- with fontina and spinach. I had a special with asparagus, fontina, spinach & ham.

I don't know about you, but I always have to take a picture of my food. The good and bad just because I love remembering every little detail of the dish. I offend look at images on the web of restaurants dishes before I even think about stepping in the door. Must of the pictures on my iphone are of food from restaurants. Once I forgot the name of the dish but had the picture of it. I as the waiter if he know what dish was this picture on my phone. I use my phone are a documentary of our food adventures.
