Lake Shetek is located nerar the South Dakota bourder just outside of Currie. The park has two campgrounds with power. Sunrise campground has full hookups with lots of space inbetween sites. There is no shower house. 70 sites.  A number of cart-in and tent site.

Lake Shetek has a couple of Historical markers. Koch cabin which has been moved to the parking lot next to our campground and can be seen from the our site.

Lake Shetek Monument is the bural site of the settler massicure during the Dakota War of 1862. A lot of history can be found in the towns and parks in this area about the Dakota War.

Trails – Casey trail is paved and the Shetek monument can be found on it. We took the trail from Sunrise to Oakwood campground to the back edge of the campground to find the monument. We crossed the road to visit Smith Lake. We took the paved Casey Jones state trail to the Ranger station and then Havthorn trail and road back to our spot.

Webster Island – Drove down a dirt road to park at the Cart in erea. Walked out pass the gate and down another dirt road. Then walkedthe loop around the Island. At one point you could see a narrow separation to be able to see Lake Shetek. Not much to see on this walk but on one part a scary fish popped his head out.

Loon Island – Very popular area. We parked at the boat launch and walked to raised pathway to the island. Lots of boats in the water going into the water. There was a canoe rental station there. The trail is mosly wooked with some view of the lake. You couold hear fast moving boats passing by. After the we walked on the pinic trail. A nice size bath house and changing room which is mostly outside covered by walls near the swimming area. The swimming area was on the back side of the building with a sharp set of stairs leading down to the beach. We took the boat landing trail back to the truck.

Just outside of the park is a small store. We got hamburger buns and mustard.

End of the Line Train Museum is just in Currie. It has many building to visit. A church, court house, school house, Engine house, section foreman house, depot, a round table and so menu railroad hardware. 2 cabooses and 2 steam engines. A number of maintenance devices to move along the rails to fix the rails.

Warning – Loud Noises from Key Lagro Restaurant. Across the lake is where this restaurant is located and it has outdoor concerts that last pass 1am. It was super loud. I would check there site to see if a concert is playing. Even look to see if the cover band is good. The one concert night was a horrible cover band. All you could mostly hear was pounding and bad singing.
