Ragbrai 2010

Ragbrai 2010

Sioux City to Dubuque from July 25-31

This was my first Ragbrai and my husband's 13th. Ragbria is a bike ride across Iowa over 7 days. RAGBRAI stands for The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride across Iowa. Ragbrai is the oldest, largest and longest bike tour event in the world. Each year the ride starts at the Missouri River and ends at Mississippi River. Each year it changes what town and cities it goes though. And yes there are hill in Iowa.

The Barking Spiders Bike club is a group my husband has been apart though the years. Jim, one of the members rode in the second Ragbrai 1774. He has only missed 5 Ragbrias. I have heard many stories from my husband and his friends. His first Ragbrai, "saggy Thursday", the hottest and hilliest. One of the members Jane is a member of a ski club in Appleton, WI, which I am a member of. Jane told Larry about the Switzerland trip in 2004 and this is how I met Larry.

We have biked many of Tour of Lake rides and group camping/biking trips though the years. The whole week of Ragbrai always sounded to much. So when I heard this year was going to be a somewhat flat year I considered trying it out. Larry and I have been doing a lot of biking and felt I would be up for it. We even got a Tandem (Yokota) bike . I am so thankful for Larry, who pushed me though it.

Someone said over 25,000 people were one the first couple of days. Some of the towns had entertainment, which gave you time to relax and find your group. Seeing a friendly face on the ride gave me peace. I have heard there is always someone behind you and not to worry. They weren't kidding.

Prop Shopping

Prop shopping for the correct size rectangle dish and dessert glass for Tuesday's shoot with Kimberly. This image has three desserts in it. Two on the plate and in a glass behind it. Checked out stores online to see who had what and sizes. Went to Patina with no luck. They didn't have the correct size plate. Went to a couple of stores to find the correct size plate. The correct size plate can help the food. The plate can't be to big or the desserts will be lost on the plate. Too small and there is no room on the plate. These desserts need to breath... The time spent shopping is worth it to get the correct props.

Soups

Preparing for two soup photo shoots for next week, tortilla Soup and an Italian Soup. Looking at props and tabletops colors. Just the little details can enhance the image. I have the prefect bowl but not the prefect color so I am going to floral spray the bowl. For these shoots I am going to paint the tabletop.

Wine

Shooting two different types of wine. Lori is a good friend and will be using these Images for invitation. This is one of the thing that I am missing from my web page is just images of wine bottles and glasses. I love wine and love to add it into an image but just never thought about it standing alone. When seeing the image in my head, I want to add cheese to it or some kind of food. So this project is turning out to be a lot of fun.

ASMP Fashion Show at Art-A-Whirl May 14th, 2010

I was one of the photographers who participated in setting up and shoot for this event. Fashion Photo shoot was presented by Costume the Cities and Vicknair Photography. Costume The Cities provided the costumes for local models. Hair and makeup was done by Faces Etc. of MN.

The model to the left is Taylor Houska. He had incredible poses.

Prince make up was done by Faces Etc. of MN. He even had the Prince poses down. He was a joy to work with.

There were a total of four model that I was able to photograph. The whole experience was exciting and a lot of fun. It was great to work with Lance Vicknair, Steve Umland, David Anderson, Karl Heber, & Jason Braun.
